3D Technology Checklist

This product is 3D-related. To help you get a great 3D experience, use the checklist below to ensure you have everything you need. 3D viewing requires:

A Display
First, you'll need a 3D-ready display--whether it's a 3D HDTV, 3D projector, or 3D computer monitor. These displays have more processing power than standard 2D models for displaying 3D images in rapid succession.
A Source
Your display may be ready for 3D playback, but you'll still need a device to read 3D content. This can be a cable box with a subscription to a 3D channel, a 3D Blu-ray Disc player, or a PlayStation 3 system.
3D Content
3D content--the actual entertainment, in other words--will be played back using the source mentioned above, whether it's a 3D broadcast from your cable provider, a 3D Blu-ray Disc, or a 3D video game.
3D Glasses
For now, the vast majority of 3D HDTVs require glasses for 3D viewing. Many use powered "active shutter" glasses, others polarized "passive" glasses. You'll need one pair per viewer, and they'll have to be compatible with your display, whether they're the same brand, or a pair of "universal" glasses designed to work across brands.
HDMI Cable
To connect your source (such as a 3D Blu-ray Disc player) to your display, you'll need a high-speed HDMI cable. Cables with this designation feature bandwidth speeds up to 10.2 Gbps (gigabits per second), for carrying the 3D signal without any loss of quality.

April 2011
With the LE835 series, Sharp applies its Quattron technology to the 3D HDTV, producing brilliant 3D images with reduced crosstalk blur. Immerse yourself in the latest 3D title, complete with spacious sound to complete the experience. And whether you're enjoying 2D or 3D content, you'll benefit from Sharp technologies like the proprietary AQUOS LED backlighting system and X-Gen LCD panel, which uses an enhanced Active Contrast algorithm to deliver a dynamic contrast ratio of 8,000,000:1. Translation? Serious picture quality. This series also incorporates Sharp's AquoMotion 240 feature, which virtually eliminates perceptible blur and motion artifacts in fast-moving video. The LE835 Series also boasts Internet connectivity, including Vudu apps, Netflix streaming video, CinemaNow, Blockbuster On Demand, Alphaline Entertainment, and Napster. Built-in Wi-Fi makes connecting a breeze. This also makes for easy access to AQUOS Advantage Live, the industry's leading online support system, to help ensure you get the most out of your new television.

3D Experience, Now Featuring Quattron Technology

The AQUOS Quattron 3D system produces the brightest 3D image resolution on the market today, significantly reduced 3D "crosstalk blur" and a dynamic contrast ratio of 8,000,000:1. The Quattron LE835 Series 3DTVs employ Sharp's quad pixel technology, the X-Gen LCD Panel, Frame Rate Enhanced Driving and LED backlight side-mount scanning with a newly enhanced Active Contrast algorithm, to deliver a superior 3D experience. The optional pairs of advanced 3D glasses offer a versatile 3D-to-2D mode conversion allowing one person to watch in 2D while others are watching in 3D. In addition, Sharp's three Spacious 3D Sound modes complete the immersive experience when viewing movies, concerts or any 3D programming.

Quattron Quad Pixel Technology

Quattron LED LCD TVs feature advanced technologies enabling picture quality that has been difficult or impossible to reproduce using conventional LCD displays. When combined with Sharp's 1080p X-Gen LCD panel, the displays offer dramatic reduction in energy consumption compared with conventional CCFL LCD TVs. These technologies work in tandem to optimize picture quality and contrast ratios while reducing energy use.

Quattron LED LCD TVs employ a four-color filter, adding the color Y (yellow) to the three colors of R (red), G (green) and B (blue). Quad Pixel technology produces this groundbreaking combination expanding the color gamut and faithfully rendering nearly all colors that can be discerned while introducing never-before-seen colors to LCD TVs, like sparkling golds, Caribbean blues and sunflower yellows.

Sharp's X-Gen panel provides a wider aperture, allowing more light to pass through, which requires fewer backlighting elements to create an extremely bright image. Also, because the redesigned LCD panel has fewer ribs than traditional panels, the pixels seal more completely, enabling nearly all light to be blocked and resulting in deeper blacks.

AquoMotion 240

AquoMotion 240 Technology improves fast moving images by combining Sharp's 120Hz Fine Motion Enhanced Technology with 120-backlight scanning. Fine Motion Advanced processing creates and inserts 60 unique frames a second, which smoothes out edges that occur between frames in the original footage. The backlight scanning works with the panel refresh rate to further reduce perceived motion blur and improve overall clarity and picture quality.

X-Gen Panel

Sharp's X-Gen panel provides a wider aperture allowing more light to pass through, which requires fewer backlighting elements to create an extremely bright image. Also, because the re-designed LCD panel has less ribs than traditional panels, the pixels are better sealed which enables nearly all light to be blocked resulting in darker images.

Mega Contrast

With a full LED backlight, luminance can be controlled with greater precision than with a CCFL backlight because of the differences in intensity control properties. Compared with the modulation rate of a typical CCFL backlight, the ultra-bright LED backlight is capable of modulating down to an incredible rate. Through the combined operation of Sharp's X-Gen panel, which has a high contrast ratio and Sharp's ultra-brilliant LED backlight system, AQUOS LE830 Series LCD TVs achieve an ultra-high contrast ratio that delivers unprecedented degrees of black and images that project incredible depth.

VyperDrive

VyperDrive game mode helps to eliminate the lag time between the game console and TV. When Game Mode is activated, the signal is streamlined, resulting in transmission that is five times faster than normal mode. The result is a game experience you'll never forget.

Environmental Advantages

Sharp designed AQUOS LCD TVs to require fewer resources to manufacture and less energy to consume. Sharp LCD TVs are ENERGY STAR qualified and feature low energy consumption and extended operation life. Sharp is committed to setting new standards for energy efficiency and environmental friendliness by minimizing waste and greenhouse gases in all Sharp factories. 5.0 out of 5 stars This is a beautiful TV, March 31, 2011

This review is from: Sharp LC60LE835U Quattron 60-inch 1080p 240 Hz 3D LED-LCD HDTV, Black (Electronics)
I purchased this TV from Paul's TV through Amazon earlier this month.

This is a beautiful TV. It is also incredibly thin, which is great for the wall mounted installation.
I purchased a pair of Sharp 3D glasses on ebay.
I have the TV hooked up to a HTPC with a GT430 video card . I watched "Resident evil afterlife" 3D Blu-ray. It was breathtaking.
I did not test the OTA HDTV tuner as I don't have an antenna hookup in the room where the TV is at the moment.
I have not tried the DLNA feature either.

Pros :
The picture is very bright and just amazing. Much better than other manufacturers like Sony and Vizio.
This is a really nice size for a large room
When watching 1080p/60Hz sources, the picture is incredibly smooth. The 240 Hz refresh rate is absolutely amazing. I may have to watch this TV more even though the screen is only 1/4" of the size of my projection screen.
The wifi really works well. I have it working... Read more

I've had this unit a week now and I'm very impressed with it. The picture quality is amazing.
I use it with an Oppo 93 3D Bluray player going through an Onkyo 970. Everything is HDMI 1.4
compliant and it all works very nicely together. The Sharp sees the Onkyo, but not the Oppo
so far. Not really an issue. Likewise the limited web apps are not somethig that bother me.

3D playback was out of this world watching Avatar. I had seen 3D demos in stores and thought it was
a bit contrived and not really immersive. I'd see some cartoon character pop out of the screen, or a
big drop of water go by rafting the grand canyon.. but Avatar was full on, very real.. as far as it
is "real" of course.

Be prepared to mess about for a while dialing in the picture. Skin looked overly red out of the box.
I also had to tone down yellow and magenta setting and reduce color saturation a few clicks in order
to make things right... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Happy, April 23, 2011
This review is from: Sharp LC60LE835U Quattron 60-inch 1080p 240 Hz 3D LED-LCD HDTV, Black (Electronics)
Amazing is the only word to describe this TV. The bezel is small and the stand is rock solid, it looks great even when off. When you turn it on your jaw drops at the bright, colorful, razor sharp picture. This TV has just about every feature you can imagine. How cool is it to effortlessly switch from TV to Netflix to stored files. I have not tried the 3D yet so hopefully that will not disappoint. Only a few minor issues keep this from being 5 stars.
Pros:
-Dual band wireless N
-2 USB data ports, this TV plays avi, mkv flawlewssly with a nice user interface. Great to have one large drive connected and still have a port to plug in my portable drive.
-You can turn off the 'TV ON' light in the front. May not seem like a big deal but with this off there are no lights or indicators to distract you.
-Nice Netflix UI, better than the xbox IMO
-Ridiculous number of connections, all my old (and new) stuff connects with no problem.
